Students are seeking:

• Guidance in navigating the path from undergraduate and graduate student to professional scientist/academician/clinician
• Opportunities to become a member of a specific research team
• Advice on how to balance career and family
• Evaluation of ideas for potential areas of research
• Understanding available educational and career options
• Expertise in the areas of need identified by the mentee
• Networking (development of skills and professional contacts)

Specifically, we hope the mentor will:

• Learn about the student before arriving at the JEGM2010 meeting through his/her CV or research abstract (the mentee is encouraged to make the initial contact)
• Meet the mentee at the Student Mixer
• Be prepared to share and discuss educational, career or research objectives in a constructive manner
• Introduce the mentee to colleagues with similar interests to help the student establish a professional network
• Attend the poster or podium presentation of the mentee and provide feedback
